Another day in the life of STAPHYLOCOCCUS:
Today is April 25, 2008
I am getting better at finding ways to resist the antibiotics that they keep trying to kill me with. I have found that what they have been using to treat me recently; Methicillin. Is not working to fight me off anymore and I can survive this treatment quite easily. They have been trying to treat me with a new antibiotic; Vancomycin. Sometimes I am over taken by this medication, other times I am able to change my structure once again and find a way to survive!
About Me
- Staphylococcus
- I am a very strong and hardy organism that can survive in extreme temperatures or other inhospitable circumstances. Most of my kind are harmless and reside normally on the skin and mucous membranes of humans and other organisms, but sometime I can cause a wide variety of disease in humans and other animals. My favorite types are; Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. S. aureus is a version of me that has been able to mutate to survive many different antibiotics. S. aueus will make sure that I never go extinct, by finding ways to resist all of the new antibiotics they keep trying to use on me!
